We can handle virtually any plastic size reduction job. The size reduction equipment that we have falls into three categories: large-scale, granulation, pulverization.
Large scale size reduction is done using a guillotine and/or slow-speed shredders. This equipment is the first stage of processing scrap items that are too big to fit into a granulator throat (our largest is 24" x 40"). After shredding, material is reduced to chunks or strips about 2 inches wide.
Granulating is reduction to chips. 3/8" or 7/16" is standard, but 1/4" or 5/16" is frequently used as well
Pulverizing normally starts with granulated material or with pellets, and produces powder from 10 to 35 mesh (any size is possible). 35 mesh is the standard for rotomolding, while 10 or 20 mesh is normal for PVC. We do only ambient (non-cryogenic) pulverizing, so some materials cannot be pulverized, for example flexible vinyl.
Supplementary processing can be done in conjunction with any of these processes. All granulators and pulverizers contain integral magnet systems to remove ferrous metal contamination. Fines removal through aspiration, non-ferrous metal detection and removal, screening, sizing, blending -- we can combine all of these processes with size reduction to achieve the product you desire.
Recycle compounding is known as reprocessing. We can return your PE or PP scrap as reprocessed pellets through extrusion compounding. Our single-screw compounding lines are equipped with a Gala underwater pelletizers capable of producing a range of pellet sizes down to 100 pellets per gram. Our specialty is reprocessing roto grade PE. We can accept your scrap or regrind and return pellets or 35 mesh powder.
Fines or Light Fraction Removal via Aspiration Aspiration is a process using airflow to remove fines or light-weight particles such as paper. The systems are adjustable and thus flexible.
Screening Screening is separation of flowable material by particle size. Multiple screens can be used to achieve up to 3 (on our equipment) product streams. For example, more than 10 mesh material, less than 10 to 40 mesh material, and less than 40 mesh material. This process is integral to all pulverizing applications.
Blending We have low shear blenders up to 45,000 pounds capacity.
Metal Removal Ferrous metal is easily removed with magnets. We use powerful rare-earth systems which are self cleaning. Non-ferrous metal can be removed two ways. The simplest is known as a metal-out. As a stream of material falls through a detection chamber, a sensor detects any metal and activates a trap-door which allows the contaminated portion to spill out, along with some material. Because of the material loss, this is efficient only for relatively small amounts of metal. For larger amounts, we have an electrostatic separator which uses static electricity to continuously separate plastic and metal.
Lab Testing We offer complementary melt index, density testing, and sieve analysis to our customers for any material they desire. We provide certificates of analysis with all of our roto-grade materials.
Our certified destruction services have grown from our commitment to recycling. Typical applications include surplus licensed goods, medical items, confidential or potentially valuable items (e.g. credit card blanks), and recalled products. Items are stored inside our secure warehouse or on locked trailers and are usually destroyed the same day they are received. Destruction is by shredding and/or grinding, and we offer virtually any method of follow-on disposal if recycling is not desired or possible. We provide a destruction process and a Certificate of Destruction customized exactly to your needs. Recycling of all portions of the item, including packaging, is frequently possible. We can recycle plastic, glass, metal, and paper. We can work with the US Customs Service to obtain duty drawback for imported items.
